The interim Mayor of Manchester Mr Tony Lloyd will be the Chief Guest at the forthcoming 7th Health Mela organised by the National Forum for Health and Wellbeing on 12 March 2015 at the University of Bolton.

Tony was born in Stretford in 1950 and attended local schools in Stretford and Old Trafford before studying Mathematics at the University of Nottingham and Business Administration at Manchester Business School. In 1979 Tony was elected to Trafford Council where he served until 1984, and was sometime Deputy Leader of the Labour Group. Tony was elected to Parliament in 1983 until he stood down on 22 October 2012 to contest the Police and Crime Commissioner election. During his years in Parliament he held several posts in the shadow cabinet and was member of several committees.

In June 2015, Tony was appointed interim Mayor of Greater Manchester.

The event will commences with a breakfast meeting at 10 am on the theme ‘Inspiring Health & Wellbeing in the Community by Working Together’. This meeting is attended by senior representatives of the local Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS Trusts, University staff, voluntary bodies, the Local Authority and other invitees.

The meeting will be followed by a brief formal public ceremony at 11 am during which Mr Lloyd will open the Health Mela event. The event will have several health related stalls and visitors will have opportunity to have their health checks and health MOT conducted by health professionals. Children and adults will be able to enjoy smoothy bike and avail of other activities.

The entry to the event is open to everyone free of charge and there will be free car parking available at the University of Bolton.

This event is supported by the University of Bolton, Rotary International, local Rotary clubs, several NHS bodies as well as other voluntary organisations.
